Originally from Southeast Asia, Ylang Ylang is a tree cultivated for its yellow flowers when ripe, from which an essential oil widely used in perfumery is extracted. The distillation of the fresh flower of Ylang-Ylang makes it possible to extract an essential oil in several fractions. The process can take up to 20 hours. The product of successive distillations gives an essence of different densities: Extra S, Extra, First, Second and Third. The Extra Superior, Extra Normal and First fractions are intended for luxury perfumery. The Second and Third are for cosmetics, soaps and detergents. Its fragrance is sweet, fine and enveloping.
